I am committed to capturing the art of dance in imaginative spaces. My passion for dance and photography connects dance to the world by making it more accessible to broader audiences through a unique medium. In order to realize my goals as a photographer I strive to capture genuine people in inspiring places. I do this in a way that I hope motivates the viewer to leave with a deeper appreciation of the possibilities in movement and the beauty of the living world.
As a photographer, I have worked primarily in landscape and travel work. I find inspiration in the natural world, but always feel the need to have a human subject in order to make my work more relatable than just a beautiful place. One of the ways I have adopted human subjects is to photograph landscapes while I am out hiking or traveling with companions- some of my favorite shots involve my close friends hiking, kayaking or simply standing on the edge of the world. These subjects are placed in a position of strength and power in my work, while also embodying a sense of self-reflection and peace. In my current work, I am diving deeper into what this subject position would feel or look like if instead of a hiker or a still body, I place a dancer in these scenes. The Natural Body in Photography and Dance is an independent project that I am working on with four dancers as an investigation of space, location, and “individualized natural movement.” It is my goal to produce a new photo series that documents these dancers moving in places that compliment and juxtapose their styles in order to analyze how dance and dancer’s are perceived in various spaces.
I would love to speak with you about your upcoming projects and how we could collaborate together. Send me a note to get started!
